Default Transmission pan bolts

I am probably going change the pan/filter and replace the trans fluid very soon. I have read that the earlier torx head pan bolts are prone to stripping. The later , more robust ones run about $3.00cdn each. Why can you not just use a normal hex head bolt with an appropriate washer ? Is there something obvious that I am failing to see ?

IIRC someone posted that they did exactly that, possibly in the S Type section.

FWIW, there are non-ZF 6HP26 pan/filter/screws/seals combo packs on eBay for very low prices...

@fmertz. Thanks ...I'll have a look

@ NB Cat do you realize where I am located ? I could probably buy a used transmission for the cost of shipping that kit here It's generally cheaper for me to get stuff from the UK than from the US

Thanks for the thought though.

I didn't realise shipping costs to the eastern Canadian provinces from California would be prohibitive.

I used hex heads and washers to replace a couple of the torx heads that were damaged. They work fine. Socket heads would be good, also.

In replacing with HEX headed and washers for easy socket use, I reasoned that the dia of washer was important as the pan can easily flex if not well supported or if torqued incorrectly. As Norri advises, well covered in S-Type forum for ZF 6HP26.

Best wishes,

Ken

I tried the search function in the S-Type forum and found nothing ??? maybe I'm just being thick ?
