Default Transmission Service

Brought the 55k mile Tiger home after the transmission service completion. Yes, it is expensive.

As previously noted, once in a blue moon my XK8 is a little delayed going into reverse, a little lazy on down shift to first. I have had her jump into first with a wheel chirp after multi stop signs only one time.

My Master Jag tech stated the fluid was a bit dark and burnt looking. No hard clutch material or hardware found in the pan.

My 50 mile drive home note radical improvement in shifting. Way too, too smooth for my liking in the past. Seems like a new transmission.

All my symptoms pointed to foul/ poor oil. Time will tell. I am hopeful the improved performance will stay without major overhaul in the future.

I would suggest flushing your trans fluid, to give you some piece of mind. Just changing the filter, and fluid only removes about a third to a quarter of the capacity. Change it a few times, and you can be sure at least most of the old fluid is gone......Best of Luck.....Mike

Don't you have these 'Drain-Flush-Refill facilities in the US?

This was taken on a forum visit to Mackie Transmissions in Glasgow, UK.

We have them, but there have been so many warnings on the forums about possible damage from materials forming hard deposits becoming suspended that many are avoiding the forced flush. Whether true or not is hard to prove either way.

Having a lift, I don't find it inconvenient to do multiple changes, and don't like others working on my cars if I can avoid it.
