Question, do anyone know if the 1997 XK8 have a transponder chip fitted in the key which disarms an immobiliser when you start the car?

 

The 1997 Electrical Diagram Set shows a "Key Transponder Module" as a Option depending upon the Specific Market.

If fitted, it is located "Adjacent to the Passenger side Fuse Box" and is connected by a 20 contact Green Connector.

 

Sounds like a handy thing to have. Do all XK8's have them?

 

My understanding was that the XK used the same security system as the X300 (1995) updated system, with the same keys & remotes.

I just sold my 96 XJ6 X300. It shared some parts with my 06 XKR! The center dash panel and sound system, the center arm rest and drink holder, the door lock units, the brake booster and pedal unit, the ABS unit, the steering system, and so on. Jag tried to make things last as long as they could.
