Default travel advice

Me and the misus are driving a well taken of 2001 xkr from Redding Ca to Lubbock Tx. Any advice?
Route? What to bring along as far as tools? What kinds of baggage will FIT? How to prep the car? How often to stop?

I know it's a broad question, but we have owned jag sedans, but not a convertible.

The driver and passenger will have road fatigue long long before the car needs attention or rest of any kind.

Before the trip I would absolutely change oil, oil filter, and air filter.

if the transmission fluid, , supercharger oil, rear end and power steering fluids are over 10,000 miles old, change those also before the trip.

do you know the age of the supercharger and accessories belts ? If not, those need changing.

that bit of maintenance should get you across the USA and back again….. plus a few tank fulls of premium unleaded gasoline.

Route:

get on Arizona 260 as soon as possible and then take US 60 across New Mexico and Texas.

other routes will be less scenic and more heavily traveled. In other words, typical USA interstate highways.

PS from Redding get on US 50 and take it east as far as Ely NV and from there US 93 south. That will help you to avoid most of the Las Vegas traffic.

100% agree. If you are looking for a (long) detour I highly recommend AZ 191. If you are of the sporting nature it offers something like a thousand turns in the course of 100 miles but even at a slower pace it ranges from 2000 to 9000ft and you can see the full range of Arizona landscape. Watch out for the bighorn sheep.
