Default Trunk lights

Where does the switch for the trunk lights live?

I see a switch that is pretty big and hard to push in on the trunk lid. Is that it?

Do you have to have head lights on for them to work? Is there a fuse?

Bulbs are good, but no lights when you open the trunk

bigvettefread, The big hard button on the trunk lid pops the trunk up when it is unlocked. The lights will go on at any time. The switch is in the lock assembly. Take off the plastic piece where the trunk latch enters. If I remember the switch wasn't too expensive at dealer. Very easy to install. Jack

I have found the trunk lights on mine work when they feel like it, some days they do some days they dont, always a pleasant suprise if they do!

Quirky is a good term for these cars IMHO

Thanks for the info. I was starting ti think in that doirection as I remembered I have had several cars that the switch was controlled at the door latch'

I will have to see if I can fix the switch or even re invent the location to work better.

Fixed!!!!

I pulled off the facory latch light switch and found it to be dead.

I went to Radio shack and bought a very tiny micro switch and made the plastic panel retainor hole just a tad larger, then I soldered the wires to the switch, fished it into the area with the latch and put it up into the enlarged hole, putting the nut on and then the plastic trim over the switch so you can't see it and the lights work great! (completely reversible as well)

Granted there is a very small black capped switch sticking up but it is barely above the trim panel, if you didn't know it was there you would probably not notice it. It takes almost no pressure to turn off the lights and they come on every time I open the lid.

I know this kind of fix is taboo to the pure of heart but it works well, hard to notice and it will do until I get to order one from the dealer.

Thanks for the help locating the switch.

I think that DIY repair would be acceptable to about 99% of us...the boot isn't exactly as critiqued like the cabin or engine bay is. Save your money for the larger, more 'aesthetically' pleasing projects.
