Question A turn of the wheel ...

OK, so I have the same problem on my 2001 XK8, the ABS light / warning messages come on after driving a bit. After some curious experimentation, I noticed that simply turning the steering wheel a quarter turn to the right of center after an engine start causes the ABS light to come on ... even when the transmission is in park and the Jag hasn't moved. I can drive all day going straight or making left turns and the ABS light will not come on, but a slight turn to the right of center (while driving or parked) and bingo, the ABS light / warnings turn on.

Unfortunately making left turns all day is not my preferred solution. Any suggestions on where to start?

Thanks.

Believe it or not this one makes perfect sense.

On each front wheel there is a short section of wiring leading to the sensor. When you make a steering input, that wire section has to follow. Sometimes the wiring harness is secured to the car without leaving enough slack for this to happen without stressing the connectors. Turn the steering wheel a certain amount, the wiring to the sensor goes open-circuit, and the fault lights up.

I think it's the right wheel where the wire has to stretch when turning right, but you'll see which one it is when you look. Re-position the wiring harness to leave a little more slack, clean the connectors and all should be good to go.

p.s. Maybe a little more descriptive topic for your post will improve the respone next time. Just a thought ...

Very common fault, the harness breaks and you get the fault.

Easy to fix, easy to get to and not to expensive

I have seen both a broken wire and stressed connnectors cause an intermittent open circuit at this point.

Because of how repeatable this one is ... with a particular steering wheel input ... seems to me more likely the connectors. To be sure, it's maybe best to test this way ...

once you get access to the wiring in question.
