Upper control arm squeak.. discuss
Changed the front stabilizer bushings and stabilizer links..
Noticed a fairly loud squeak coming from upper control arm when ambient temp is rather cold.
How much should I expect to pay for the control arms?

What about the upper ball joint?
What is it thats squeaking?
Is it the bushing on the arm, or the ball joint?

Both are readily available and reasonably priced, just replace both. bad ball joints are more inclined to knock rather than squeak, that is more likely the bushings.
Welch has them for 375 usd, and the labor from my mechanic quoted me only 100 to install.
I would think that wrestling with a tough ball joint or bushings would end up costing me almost as much.
Agree with baxtor - ball joint will be a knocking sound, bushings will squeak.
If you do the ball joint, you have to buy the entire arm, but because of the way it's assembled, bushings wont be fitted in the arm itself. I believe they will be separate, but since your mechanic is there anyway, may as well replace bushings.

Since my mechanic is doing the work, I feel more comfortable just purchasing new control arms fully assembled with ball joints and bushings.

For whatever reason, my mechanic never toyed with the idea of simply replacing the bushings and BJ.. He immediately told me how expensive the upper control arms were,, I offered to shop for the part and he was OK with it..
His labor to change out the upper control arm is 100.00 usd.
I'll purchase the BJ and upper bushings.... and I'll use Welsh.. their prices are excellent
If you're DIY then buying the bushes and ball joint makes sense because it's a huge saving over the cost of a replacement arm and your assembly time is "free".
When you're paying for expertise, the time saved by simply replacing the arm makes it a sensible alternative.
