Upstream O2 sensor mixup, 2003 XKR
Hi guys,
I got a check engine light and a P1646 code on my XKR. I bought an upstream O2 sensor from Rock Auto
and tried to have it installed by my indie.
He called and said it was the incorrect part and so he ordered one and got the exact same part.
The ones we both got have white connectors and the alignment nipple is on the opposite side of the oem connector that is on the car.
Obviously neither fit.
The existing connector on the O2 sensor on the car is black.
Any suggestions?

O2 Sensor
Hi Graham,
It is a Denso, which is OE on other parts of the Jag. I've been very satisfied with Denso parts in the past.
I replaced both downstream sensors a few years ago with Densos...no problems.
It's just strange because I thought I ordered correctly and my indie, who is sharp as a tack, did exactly what I did. Can't figure out the incompatability issue.
Also, the connector (on both replacements) is off white, so may be described as gray. I see those connectors referred to in that way here on the forum.
I will call the parts guys at Gaudin tomorrow, today I was slammed at work.
They always seem to be spot on when it comes to parts and advice.

O2 Sensor
Can the O2 sensors physically be mis installed? In other words will the upstream fit in the downstream hole and vice versa? What would the computer report as far as codes?
I mention this because I had the Nameless Cats installed and all the sensors were removed and reinstalled. That would explain the plug incompatability.

Just replaced mine a couple of months back, always best to get a matching pair I am afraid, you can try one first but 2 is better left & right uppers as you wont know for sure what's on the other side. The Denso ones are by far the best. Denso Pt number is O-E608 that's what is stamped on the side of mine, my mate tried on his with cheap aftermarket ones and came a cropper then purchased the same as me. Then no more P1646.
