Default Water valve guidence

I am in the process of renewing the valley hoses and associated back end heater hoses on my wife's 2001 XKR. I will be checking/renewing the aux water pumps brushes also. My question concerns the water valve, we had no known heating problems but I do not want to do this again! Is there a high failure rate on these and is there a way to test their function?

Thanks for all the wisdom this forum has imparted in my quest to keep her Jag running.

Not sure how common it is but mine went and was replaced. My test was the heat stopped blowing hot. Dealer diagnosed and repaired.

Best.
