I am in the same boat. You can look around, some folks have posted a number of fixes. Problem is that the light is 2 part that are supposed to be sealed. The seal is exposed to water rolling off the hood and eventually makes its way in there as the seal dries up over time. There is also a long known condensation issue with this design. Repair is not as easy as it sounds. Folks that have tried to "clean" the reflector have discovered the reflecting layer is super thin and rubs off at the slightest touch. There were reports of using modeling chrome paint with OK results, but not "factory" perfect. As you pointed out, the reflector is not entirely cheap either. Fortunately, the light assembly comes off the car without removing the bumper, or anything crazy. Best is to remove the wheel and the well liner for better access and go from there.
That is not a 2005 XK Head Light assembly as the Right-side of the High Beam would be Black....It appears that Head Light Assembly is from an earlier Model XK as the one in the Photo is Chrome plated through-out....It must have been replaced some where down the line.
You need to go to some Wrecking Company like NationwideAutoRecycling.com and buy matching Headlight Assemblies for your 2005 XK...Used will run you about $350.00 a piece......Be sure they have the Black on the side between the High Beam and the Parking Light.....Not sure what year Jaguar changed this but I think it was 2003.....Just look for 2005-2006 to be sure....Also, I just thought.....You might want to look at you're other Headlight Assembly on the Left -side (Driver's side) to see if it has the Black on it!
Let us know what you find!
Good Luck to you and your new XK!
