Default What should the alternator connector peice look like?

Hey! I've been posting in forums about other issues this car has while restoring but this is the main one that I need some advice and or thoughts on in order to fix.

The problem is I need to some how reverse the connection they did to the alternator and put in what's actually supposed to be there. I've ordered an alternator and it's arrived but after researching I've found people have had jags of the same era (xk8) with two pins/two wires coming out the connection and some with three. Mine according to rock auto should have 3 and 3 pins on the alternator and every source has said that yet I see others with a different connection. Mind you I have a LHD (USA)

So I've been having to daily drive this car the last 2 days (Jaguar xk8 coupe 2001) and it's been running fine with this make shift connection with the wrong junk yard alternator, it put almost every light on the dash on but though it says battery isn't charging, though it is. I've put a new AGM battery and it's been doing well.

Im going to spend next weekend putting the new alternator in and redoing the wiring (I've also purchased a three pin lead wire it should have) but I need confirmation if this is right.

Here you can see the exposed portion is 3 wires, instead of two like is saw on other xk8s

And here you can see clearly where they put a head in but left the third wire disconnected. Whatever the seller said I'm not sure if I believe as the mechanic could have lied to him but if my thoughts are correct it would best to just remove that lead connector and put another one and reconnect it's new wires to the correct cables including the third one and remount the new alternator and done right?
And if it's reversible and how I might go about that from someone else's perspective.

Here's the lead I bought

and here's the new alternator

I don’t know the answer to your issue, but I can helpfully point out that USA cars are LHD (left hand drive), not RHD.

My apologies I meant LHD, just looking to see if any one knows if it was actually supposed to be a 3 pin connection on the alternator head. But in the process I guess I proved myself correct

That's an interesting use for what an old electrician might call 'screwits' (the thimble-shaped connectors)!

Judging by the state of the insulation on the loom, something got pretty warm around there

The connector on the alternator has three pins - this is an OEM Denso part that I will have the pleasure of fitting when I can get to it:

Denso DAN672 (Jaguar part # LNC1800AA)

...which is virtually identical to the picture you've posted.

However, only two of the connections are used. You need the yellow and the white/blue wires connected to L and IG respectively:

They usually run only two wires the IG for ignition live and L for the warning lamp dont forget the output bolt goes to the starter for its live battery connection.
It all comes out upwards just take everything in the way out and its no problem, Make sure you push in the sleeve on the RH diagram where its says Mb/Tn or its a pig to slide in
Will take you about an hour

Its intended to slide when you tighten the bolt to prevent strain on the aluminiun bracket.
