What are you paying to insure your Jaguar?
Hello all,
I am curious what people are paying to insure their Jaguar. I have a 98 xk8 convertible and when I initially bought the car I added it to my standard policy through Erie insurance and it was about $855 a year with $500 deductibles. I got a quote through Hagerty collector car insurance and it was $459 a year with no deductibles. Hagerty usually requires that the vehicle be at least 20 years old but they consider a few cars Exotic and the Jaguar fits within that requirement as long as it's not your daily driver and you have another vehicle to drive on a daily basis. They also have a $15,000 minimum agreed value amount for exotics so if the car is a total loss they guarantee the $15,000 for a loss. I have used Hagerty in the past for some collector Cadillac s and was always happy with the support and when I did have a catastrophic claim they were on the spot and very helpful
BTW I live in the northwest burbs of Chicago and have a clean driving record. (For now anyway)
Let me know what you are paying.

I have a '98 Jeep Cherokee that I list as my daily driver with no Comp or Collision at $368 year and a '01 Jag XK8 as a secondary vehicle with Comp, Collision and 750 deductibile at $760 year = combined both vehicles at $1,128 year with GEICO. My drive to work is 1-1/2 miles, no other drivers and over 65. Clean driving record, though I did have a $4000 claim about 3 years ago with GEICO, no Ticket issued, when I skidded into the back of another vehicle on some slippery road...

Same as you $459.00 with Hagerty but a $1000.00 deductible. but insured for a agreed price of $35,000.00. They do require you can prove that this isn't your everyday driver. which mine isn't, otherwise they will not insure it. The underwriters main concern was that we had more than two cars, she said that if one broke down that we would not use the XKR everyday. Which we had three main drivers, so she was OK with it.

I have two cars, both Jags. I pay $700/year for the X-Type and $1300 for the XKR. I think I need to talk to Haggerty. While I only have two cars, I work out of my home. I have a clean record, never been charged with an accident but was T-boned 3 year ago by a teenager coming out of a parking lot while I was stopped at a light. Her insurance paid.

Just moved our auto insurance from State Farm to Geico about ten days ago. $500 deductible for collision, zero deductible for comprehensive. Two drivers, both with perfect records. We have four vehicles. Our new Geico policy costs me $623 every six months for all four vehicles. State Farm was charging us $850 every six months for the exact same coverage....

After reading this thread, I immediately called Hagerty for a quote. Comparing like numbers to my present coverage, Hagerty quoted 1/2 ($355 vs. $705) of what I am currently paying to State Farm even though I have a "so called" multi car discount.
On a related note, I requested a multi car quote from Hartford (through AARP) and received a letter of denial with the comment "We find insuring a Jaguar to be too expensive to insure." I guess "cherry picking" what to cover and what not to cover, keeps the claim rate expenses low and profits high.

Interesting comments on insurance. I just changed insurers, went with Hartford (thru AARP...wasn't too excited about that, but they gave me the best price). I have a '98 XJ8 as my daily driver & wife has a 2002 Pontiac Montana. Full coverage, $500 ded, is $558 for the Pontiac, & $481 for the Jag. Just got it last week...

They told me no mileage restrictions. I have had classic cars insured with them in the past with mileage restrictions but truth be told they never checked. (Maybe they would with a claim)
Here were the requirements for my policy;
1. Not to be used as daily driver or to commute to and from work. (Must show proof of ownership of other car)
2. Must be kept in locked garage
3. No mechanical modifications.
That's about it.
