Default Wheels for the XK8: 20x8.5 + 20x10 or 20x10 + 20x10?

Looking for new wheels for my 97' XK8 and was thinking of either 20x8.5 in the front and 20x10 in the rear or 20x10 both front and back, thoughts?

Thoughts on Diameter
Prepare yourself for a very harsh ride.

I went from a 2001 XK8 on 18 inch Impeller to a 2005 XK8 on 20 inch Sepang and could feel every bump and hole in the road with the larger rims.

I'm now on 19 inch Carelia on my XK and the smooth ride is back.

Thoughts on Width
Steering and tyre life with 10's on the front could be interesting!

Wow, so 19" is like the threshold before everything goes bumpy?

I've got 17" revolvers and I'm going to upgrade to 18" impellers hopefully soon. Will I feel a difference?

I've got 20 inch Detroits and I don't find the ride uncomfortable, quite the opposite.

I went from 17 to 18...wheels look larger and no degradation in ride. Drives like a nice GT but not harsh.

In my opinion, 18 is the sweet spot for both looks and ride quality.

I think if you do 20x10s in front you'll have clearance problems. I had some issues with the 20x8.5s and 245x35 ZR tires I put in front. Back has the room, front not so much.

I'm not noticing an excessively harsh ride and I have poly bushings as well. But that is a matter of taste, I didn't really mind a Viper either and people whine up a blue storm in that car (which, admittedly, is much more harsh).

My other 98' XK8 has 20's and I don't mind the ride. I was told you can do 20"s and still lower the car, I was really leaning towards 20's but also open to 18's and having it lowered as well.

As you go up in wheel diameter, I assume you are also lowering the profile of the tire. In my experience, it's the combination of the two that make the difference.

If one is a larger factor than the other, it would have to be the profile size. Lower profile tires by default have to have stiffer sidewalls, thus a harsher ride.

Hey guys,

I am looking for the same for my 97 XK8. I am going from 17"s to probably tops - 19"s. Wheels for our cars are very limited. I have seen that the Camaros and Corvettes have the same bolt pattern as our cars however Im not to sure if the rims made for those cars have an offset that will fit ours. It would be cool to compile a list of rims/wheels that would work for our cars outside of those we are familiar with such as Coventry and OEM factory ones. Alot of times the EBAY wheel part finder doesnt always work correctly.

I will add a few that I know of that will work for our car and are outside of the norm:

DUB PHASE 5 Black/Mached - 18X8 - $215 (free shipping)
DIAMO DI38 Chrome - 18X8 -$250 (free shipping) looks somewhat classy
XTREME NX-03 Chrome - 18X9 - $225 (free shipping) looks like a truck rim
LORENZO WL28 Silver - 18X9.5 - $233 (free shipping) similar to the Detroit Montreals
MRR-GT-1 Hyper Silver - 19X8.5 - $260 (free shipping) similar to the BMW wheels

These are off the element wheels website. Im looking to buys some by the end of the year....

What size tires would be recommended for a 20x8.5 in the front and 20x10 in the rear to avoid rubbing, while hopefully maintaining some sort of comfort?

I have 20" detroits and the same tire sizes as you malbec. They really suit the car :-) The ride is a bit hard as i have uprated shocks but I like it like that and it corners well ( it could still do with being slightly lowered at the back though to make it look perfect)

I have installed 20" wheels not long ago. If interested, read my thread from September: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...r-pics-102767/

I find my ride comfortable on 20" wheels and all season tires - not bumpy at all.

What issues did you have with your 8.5"s in the front?

The tires were hitting the wheel well liners on bumps. We pounded the liner out of the way and it's clear now but it's pretty tight.

Default Finally got my wheels

Finally saved enough to upgrade my wheels. Went for some aftermarket ones after a long spree of shopping online and offline. I wanted to stay factory but I found these 19" MAAS rims for such a great deal I couldnt pass them up. I was able to keep my 20 mm spacers on the rear. I ordered some center cap stickers with the Jaguar emblem to give it more of a factory look. Will post a pic once I get them on...

Thought I'd upload a pic of them just incase anyone is thinking of going down the aftermarket route for rims....
