Where is the CAN? P1642
I have a 2001, XKR with a lot of miles 176K
When it runs it run great, still very fast.
But I had months of stumbling and limp home mode
and now it won't start. I have had a P1642 code come and go many times.
Had to park the car for a year...Thought I would look for this CAN and see if it has a problem...Where is it?

Hi Danny,
CAN is everywhere. It allows the car's various modules to communicate with each other.
Presumably you have a code reader: do you have any other codes reported?

You will find that in addition to the 'CAN' (controller area network), there is also the 'SCP' (standard to corporate protocol network).

Here is a .pdf copy of my MULTIPLEX ADVANCED DIAGNOSTICS student guide when I went for Jaguar training over a decade ago.
It will help understanding the networks.
All this info is somewhere in the LARGE FILE AREA on this forum.
I never looked for it after I uploaded it because I already HAVE IT.

Welcome to the forum Danny,
As soon as I see that I think BATTERY. If you haven't had the vehicle on a tender it can (no pun intended) lead to all kinds of weird electrical faults. Make sure you have a fully charged battery in good condition before assuming something has failed.
Please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

Thank you all, thank you motorcameron for the trouble shooting guide.
Graham, I will say my battery a few year old. I read on other threads about the battery being the source of other problems...which I have such as windows acting funny.
I will check these items and get back to you. I wish the car did not have so many computer controls, Danny
