So I just bought my grandfathers 02 XKR 100 since he recently passed away. I am trying to figure out some of the quirks with it since it sat most of its life under a carport (only 8K original miles). The problem is, the windows are not going up completely straight. After about halfway up, the windows start going up crooked. I think it is a window regulator that dry rotted since it sat so long. When the window does go up completely (usually with my assistance), the windows won't seal correctly and are jarred slightly open toward the rear part of the car. If it rains, there's no seal and the car gets soaked on the inside. Any advice? Is this just a window regulator fix or an issue with the convertible top/windows not syncing correctly? I'm new to Jaguar's and don't know much about them or convertibles in general. Any advice would be appreciated.

It could be just that the adjustments are loose, more than a broken regulator. That it is tipped out at the rear suggest this might be the case because there is a specific adjustment for that problem.

The windows in these cars have a fairly complicated adjustment procedure. Not difficult so much as just a lot of steps and sort of fiddly to get it right.

Since you are new to this particular Jaguar and it's an 02 model, be sure to check on the secondary cam chain tensioners. They have a plastic slipper than can break and destroy the engine when the timing jumps. Age is more an issue than mileage.

 

Thanks Charlie, I'll check both out. I found another potential issue given the age of the car. I drove it about 1200 miles from PA to FL a month ago. Since I've further inspected the car, it looks like there is some leakage (minimal) coming from the transmission pan plug. Do you think this might just be a broken gasket? If so, should I flush the tranny fluid and put a new gasket or just leave it alone? It's not like it's a steady drip or anything, but the seal seems like it's definitely been broken.

 

You should consider flushing the transmission fluid and the leak off the drain plug is a good reason to push this up the priority list of things-to-do.

The transmission is supposedly 'sealed for life' but that life can be greatly extended with a fluid change.
