Hi Guys

The door trims at the windows on my XK8 conv need refurbed. the rubber is being pushed out fromthe metal piece by what appears to be corrosion (white hard substance). is there any way of removing the rubber so I can get rid of this corrosion and the re-attach the rubber to the metal.

Have been looking for replacements on ebay but they seem to be rare.

Keith had a good result with the Dorchester Gray trim on his XK8 4.0 litre and I did with the Satin Black ones on my XK8 4.2.

Thanks for that. I have looked at that thread but my problem is actually the rubber part being pushed off the metal by what appears to be corrosion of some form. This is making it impossible to close the window without pushing the trim piece off the door.

I'll try and get a photo of what I mean later when I'm at home.

 

This is a repair that I have undertaken, however, I suspect that I have just bought time rather than effected a permanent cure. The problem is that the rubber is bonded to the metal and the metal corrodes and expands, turning to dust. I carried out the repair by peeling away as much of the rubber from the corroded metal as possible, then remove as much corrosion as possible. When the trims had been repainted, I bonded the rubber back to the metal (or what remained of it), using an impact adhesive.

yep thats exactly the problem I have. the metal trim actually appears to be in good shape with only one small spot of bubbling on the passenger side, but the rubber parts rea being pushed off virtually all the way along so really need to take off the rubber and clean up the metal before re-attaching.

Issue is in a few places the rubber is very securely attached and I was hoping there was an easy (ish) way of getting the rubber off.
