Today I heard a little flapping sound from my windshield and discovered the small rubber gasket between the metal trim and the windshield was coming loose at the upper corner on the drivers side ( USA left hand ). I have searched the repair manuals and multiple YouTube videos and cannot find anything about this small rubber gasket. It almost seems to be part of the metal trim.
If anyone can give me some guidance I'd appreciate it. I've been told to just caulk it, but that seems rather cheap and not attractive for this great Jag. The replacement trim costs about $400+ almost everywhere I've looked but doesn't say if it includes the small rubber gasket. I drive my Jag a lot and do not want to garage it, so any help would be great.
I'll do my best to attach a photo of the corner so everyone can see the situation.
Thanks.
Mine has been like that for years. I'm not touching it until I can find an affordable replacement. I think the sun has shrunk it somewhat so it's come out of the corner on my car.
I’ve learned that little rubber gasket and the metal trim is on the windshield from the factory. The little rubber gasket just keeps the metal from rusting. All the seal is done under the glass when placed on the body.
My plan now is to clean the gasket and the area under trim. I will apply a silicone sealant/adhesive and hold gasket in place with masking tape until set.
I’ll put photo on here when done and hope it works.
Thanks for the comments.
