Default Wired Backup Camera - Routing it

For those who have mounted a wired backup camera, how did you route the wires at the back of the vehicle? I've seen the To the Garage video where he uses a dremel to create a hole. Did others do that? Any photos would be helpful. Thanks very much.

Depending on the wire size, you might drill a small hole in one of the license plate light covers and route the wire thru it. I actually went with a wireless Bluetooth reverse camera.

Depends on your rear trim, mine is the chrome plastic style so I drilled a small hole to mount it, then ran the wire inside the trunk lid following the OEM wiring harness for the number plate light, to the hinge and then piggy backed through the grommet there. there the wiring splits off to the back right reversing light for the reverse trigger tap using a posi-tap, and the camera signal wire itself goes through the OEM wiring grommet penetration at the back right of the cabin. I used a fiber glass wire fish to run the wire through that grommet as it is tight in there. then I removed the rear seat, speaker enclosure and followed the harness all the way past the rear speaker, across the rear seat, removed center console, up the tranmission tunnel and into the back of the head unit. I did this at the same time as a total infotainment upgrade where I did amp, head unit, screen, speakers, reversing camera, microphone etc so I had most of the interior and trunk lining out. When I had the interior out I ran two lengths of cat 6 cable from the amp/cd changer area to the back of the head unit that I can use to wire things up as needed without having to rip in the interior out again, and that's what I used to run my amp audio signals and camera signal through. As Cat6 is shielded its actually pretty good for running audio signals and doesn't pick up ground noise. Audiophiles will be appalled.

I couldnt fit the camera signal wire through the existing wire trunking here, so went around it. It works.

As you have a convertible you can just follow the hydraulic hoses for the roof to get the cable from the boot to the back seats. I seem to remember for the camera itself there was already a suitable hole to get the wire into the boot lid, but I still had to drill a couple of screw holes for the camera bracket.

In terms of difficulty I would rate it 1 out of 10.
