Default A word of thanks!

A few days ago I asked about my rear view mirror becoming clear at the top and the likelyhood of the toxic fluid dripping out? You guys advised me to replace the mirror sooner than later and to protect the car's interior. I took your advice and put a folded towel over the gear shift and console. Driving around today I saw a drop of black gook fall on the towel! Wow! I'm so glad you guys and gals are here for us newbies......I'm now debating to try and remove the mirror myself or have it professionaly done, depending on the cost. ,,,,many, many thanks! Mick99

Hey Mick, these guys here know their stuff, so when they give you advise its usually right on the money as you've found out!

Hope you get your mirror fixed real soon.

I had my indy shop remove my mirror for repair and they broke my windshield anyway, so having a shop do it is not always a guarantee. If there's a next time, I'll probably just take a crack at it myself, haha.

I had my windshield replaced a few months ago and the repair guy popped it off in about 3 seconds with no damage to the old windshield. Of course, they do that about 6 times per day. And they probably don't care whether or not they damage the windshield because they are replacing it anyway.

No problem, Mick.

Glad you put that towel down there...good move.

My mirror came off very easily, without a hitch. If you look at the instructions in the post below, and follow them to the letter, you'll be fine and save some money. Mine literally came off in less than 10 seconds. The key is applying all force PARALLEL with the plane of the windshield.

Try it, and if you get nervous or have a problem, take it to your guy.

I drove my coupe at night the other day, for the first time since I had the mirror redone at Sybesma...the auto dimming worked perfectly. Can't recommend them highly enough.

Update on mirror removal. I began to remove my mirror this morning. I toof off the console at the header and disconnected the wires and began pulling down the mirror stem off the windshield mount. I knew it was going to take to take some muscle and maybe some WD 40. This got me to thinking about the Risk verses Reward analysis? So I called a local auto glass shop to see what they would charge to finish the removal? The man said he was only at the shop today because it was raining and if I brought the car in He'd remove it and install the new one for 20 dollars....Total! Wow sounded good to me!....A few yanks and he had it off in about 2 minutes! He smiled and said you have to know 'where and how' to yank! The mirror is now on it's way to Sybesma's.......Thanks for your help ,although I did coward out at the end!

No shame in avoiding a cracked windshield...although he could have cracked it, too! You'll have your mirror back in about a week. Then it's on to the next fix...
