Default XK-8 key fob

Greetings and thanks for the bandwidth! I have two questions which may have been asked before - if so pardon. I hope to impose on the knowledge and kindness of this group.

I became a little confused reading some posts about the keyless entry key fob, so I thought it better to ask and learn rather than guess and regret. Can one open the wireless entry key fob to replace the battery and clean the button pads and PCB contacts without the need to reprogram the key fob to car?

Thanks for your time and consideration. Regards, Ken

Ken,

I've moved your post from Jaguar Forums Advice / Feedback & Suggestion Center to XK8/XKR forum. The Advice / Feedback & Suggestion Center is for posts about the forum and not for technical questions.

Jaguar offer one piece of advice in the Driver's Handbook - not to press any of the buttons while changing the batteries:

In addition, the battery change should be done within a few minutes. I have read reports of the programming being lost is the batteries are removed for several hours.

If the remote fob does lose its programming, you can reprogram it yourself. It's a DIY job and not a dealer only procedure as stated in the handbook.

Hi Graham, Thanks for your help with my posts. I am still learning the rules and mechanics of the forum. The information was very helpful! I have several "owner's" manuals that were still attached to my Jag, but I don't have the security manual and didn't even know it existed. The page you copied allowed me to get the correct batteries before I even open the key fob and provided very important tips that should guide me through a successful endeavor. Regards, Ken

Ken,

It's a rare used Jaguar that comes with a full set of manuals (the Vehicle Literature Pack), keys and fobs!

The complete Vehicle Literature Packs for all 1996-2006 XK8/XKR models are available for download in PDF format from the FAQ's. Here's the direct link to the thread:
