Default XK8 Conv: How tall are you? re: Comfort

Just curious, I'm 6' 0" and need to pull my front seat back to maximum and till the seat back to maximum and even then feel a bit tight. Talking XK8 convertible.

Height is fine; not an issue with top up. I'm talking just generally in the driver seat. It's certainly not terrible or anything like that, but being new to this car and about to purchase one, just curious on how others feel and what their height is.

By the way, I'm not heavy so it's really more about height from what I can tell.

Looks like I'll be purchasing a 2002 XK8 convertible. Found a beautiful one with very low miles that is the right color and already feels like my car even though I haven't taken title "yet"

Cheers -T

Hi Terrapin

Am 6,1 and when I first test drove an XK8 cabrio my heart sank and I thought "I don't fit the dream car is ruined".

However after a few more drives I managed to get comfy and have now owned a 99 Cabrio for 2 years and I fit fine (seat fully down, back and reclined).

I think my problem was being used to a Sovereign so it felt a lot tighter in the XK8.

Hi: I am 6'4" and I am very comfortable in my xkr. I cut my teeth driving TR-6's so I am adaptable I guess. The seat is always all the way back of course. I find it very nice.

6'4", 230#. It would be nice if the seat cushion tilted and the windshield header was a tad higher but I'm comfortable.

6-0 and 210# - Only problem is head rubbing on Conv Top Frame Edge when crawling in. Seat back and down all the way. But it is a small price to pay...

I've been driving an XK8/XKR for the last eight years, I feel very comfortable after getting into the drivers seat. For the last two years I have a prosthetic left leg and it takes an extra moment to drag it in over the doorsill.
6'2" 300# size 11 6E shoes. The shoes are the tight fit.
Have fun driving you won't look back at your decision.

I'm 6'8" and while it's a pretty tight fit, I would never admit that I don't fit in my XKR Conv. Tall folks don't try cars out...they try them on. Of course many times my left knee will open the trunk for me - pretty embarrassing to have to stop, climb out of the car (like a circus act), close the decklid, and climb back into the car. My right knee often turns on my wipers when I go over a bump, but that's not nearly as embarrassing as the trunk lid exercise. I tried on an XKE once, but I wouldn't admit that I don't fit in that either. And I actually drove and old Austin Healy Sprite once, and I owned a 1972 Honda 600 Sedan. That truly was a circus act.

6' 0" relatively long torso, short legs. Seat all the way down and back, slight recline. Kind of like every other car...

Knee into the wiper stalk: so that's what it is! I've been wondering why my wipers come on at random times. The other (well known) issue is the "keys in the knees" -- couldn't they have put them somewhere else?

Here's a trick I learned from this forum: remove the driver's side sun visor. It really opens up your view of the road and you won't miss it.

6'4", 200 pounds, and the car fits great. The only complaint I've heard was from a tall person who has to keep the seat upright because of back problems. I like to lean back, so I actually don't even slide the seat all the way to the rear.

6'8" here as well. I haven't ever popped the trunk, but I will admit to activating the wipers on occasion. Surprisingly, once I figured out how to place my legs, it's quite comfortable. I had much more room in my old Cougar, but the Jag is still more comfortable, once I "put it on"

What's the deal with only tall guys responding. I am only 5'7'' and it fits like a glove. There are advantages of being short. We also live longer as our heart doesn't have to pump the blood so far.

I'm 5'7" as well. I loved my XK8 so much I got an XKR. I should have done research first, but I love almost everything about it. With a few mods, it's everything I want in a car. I do want to pump another 100hp into it though.

I have the Recaros in my 05. I love them, they fit me so well.

Yeah, but we don't blow sand in our shoes every time we fart.

I'm 6'2" 190lbs. Its a tight fit but comfortable for me. I always had trouble on long drives but the Jag seats are more comfortable than any other car I've had.

I talked to a guy who rebuilds seat cushions. He told me that the seat foam will stiffen up a bit if the car is not used, and you will sit higher. So drive it as much as possible and you might find that your fit improves. I bought a 90,000 Km car so that the seat foam would be flatened more. I gave me an extra 3/4 inch of headroom. (I'm 6 1")

6'-2" and about 220lbs., and outside of having to scrunch my neck upon entry and exit when the top is up, once inside I'm quite comfortable. Of course, it's like a limousine in terms of room compared to getting into and driving my Pantera. I must practice the art of turning myself into a pretzel to get into and drive it.

I am 6'3" and weight 210. My biggest problem with my 2000 xk8 is that I seem to sit high in the car. The dash seems too low and the roof line (when the top is down), is to low. I wish my seat went down another inch or two.

I saw in a 2003 XKR and loved the car! The seats seem to fit my much better and I saw lower in the car. The dash height was perfect, and the roof line was much higher. Is there that much of a difference between the seats in the xk8 and xkr?

@kdross,
I am 1.90, and had similar problems. I have had my seat rail extended, and that had an additional effect that the seat also lowered in the back. Although still not perfect for my length, it is even better then a newer 2003+ models.
