Default Xk8 coolant problems

Green sludge next to water pump assembly. My xk8 4.2 temp gauge too high. Car engine gets too hot and fans kick in early in my drive. Coolant bottle full. What could be the problem?

Check and while you’re at it, change the thermostat. It might be a good idea to also change the water pump. The thermostat is inexpensive, and can be had for about $14. The water pump? Prices vary, but $50 should get you a good one.

I guarantee that taking care of both of those items will take care of your overheating problem.

agreed water pump thermostat and do the black plastic coolant pipe with sensor in it, there are many hoses connected to it and it sits above other components in front of engine. the seals are not reusable and you have to remove it...

It's not a bad job up front ^^ good advice. But … green sludge ? I've always used Dexcool, the orange stuff. Green and orange do not mix.

OP says it's a 4.2, no aluminum available.
