Default XK8 gearbox fault when shifting to manual after long drives

Hi Forum,

I had a error before...
when i wanted to go from D to the left side of the Jgate the cat threw a gearbox fault even when the cat was cold.restarting the car everything was fine again until trying that again.

I replaced the jgate ( got a working used one off ebay, micro switch on the old one when going from D to left side was broken ) and then it worked.
Or so i thought.

Today i did a very fast, steep hill climb ( 15%, 1800 feet / 4 miles ) with lots of serpentines ( really maxed the cat out ).
Did let it rest on the top for about 10 minutes and when i wanted to go down again i wanted to lock the gears down to 2 manual... shifting to the left side made a clank from the tranny and it threw a gear box fault.

Did go away when restarting but came back immediately when trying.

so i went down the hill slowly with S and brakes ( bad smell i can tell you )

I went to a town 20 miles away in a very civilised manner , let the car rest for one hour and everything was good again... could shift to the left side again without error when starting. but after driving country roads ( not very civilised ) for about 50 miles i found the gearbox error is back....
and, what I really find strange, power from the motor is missing for a while after i tried that, it does not really kick even when the gearbox fault is gone after restarting.

the tranny was flushed in february, fresh oil in there, everything done and mint condition. car has 90.000 miles now.

any idea where to look before throwing money at the garage?

What DTC is logged in the TCM??
The gearbox control module already knows why the display indicated the fault. You need to ask the TCM 'where-it-hurts'.

Oh... Thank you. of course, obd2 works already with 1997 cars, no more dashboard lights blinking codes....
not used to that.

Post the DTCs here and we can discuss the solutions.
