Default XK8 intermittent fuel pump

2000 XK8 has been hesitant to start lately. On occasion I can hear the fuel pump run when I turn the key on and it will start just fine. Other times the pump will not run and she will not start. If I go back the next day it will fire right up. I have noticed that every time the fuel pump is dead, the traction control shows failed on the instrument panel. Are these systems connected in any way? A common grounding point or control input?

Start by cleaning all the power and ground connections from the battery on, and don't miss the chassis to bell housing on the right rear of the engine. That traction control fault is often a symptom of a weak battery or poor connection. The electrical guide has the locations and can be found in the DIY sticky or at jagrepair.com.

Also have the battery load tested at one of your nearby parts stores.

+1 on RJ's recommendations, it is a good place to start. If the grounds are good and the battery test good, try swapping out the fuel pump relay and see if the problem travels to the new relay location.

Thank you. Of course, the battery. That explains why it has gotten progressively more common. And I know about the finicky electrical systems on this car yet it never crossed my mind. New battery going in Saturday and I'll post my results.

Solved. Nothing but a battery issue. You guys are awesome, cheers.
