Hi all.

As the title says really!
Can anyone tell me the part number for genuine std XK8 rear shocks/dampers?
"early 1999 4.0 coupe"
Or come to that OEM parts with similar numbers!
As I seem to be finding a few numbers that differ when I search,as some dont say if they are adaptive or not!!

Cheers Dave

I have a Parts List that calls out Jaguar Part# MJA3540DE for the Standard (Non-Adaptive) Suspension.

This may be superseded by a newer#

HMMM?
The seller said the ones I have just bought were listed for XK8 non adaptive with a number MJA3540DC then when they arrive the number on them is MJA3541DC on the bottom of the damper!
They are genuine Jaguar as they have the leaping cat logo!

That is strange! Part number MJA3540DC was superceeded by MJA3540DE. Part number MJA3541DC does not show up in the catalogues.

Ah at least I know the number quoted was an old part number, maybe these were a misprint batch?
I feel a chat to Jaguar is in order!

Part# MJA3540DE
Jaguar Part# MJA3540DE for the Standard (Non-Adaptive) Suspension.
Is the correct part number rrp £141.21 EACH not Pair PLUS VAT = £338.88 / pair
However the part number etched on the dampers id different & does not compute.
I have just purchased a set from my local Jaguar Dealer

Am pleased to say that the pair of rear dampers I bought have been confirmed as correct for my non cats 1999 XK8.
Not a bad deal either at £150 inc p/p for a NOS original pair!

But they look like genuine Jaguar parts but if second hand too expensive IMHO

NOS means new old stock,so they aint brand new off the shelf and in the box!!!
If I thought that they were s/h I would of sent them back.
I am not into powdercoating to tart up how it looks,as done on the wrong component it will not last long anyway!

XK8 rear shocks/damper part number
Hi Pilkie
Sorry just thought as the bolt holes were rusty they may have been used.
Did not powder coat the Dampers just the springs & cups which came new from Jaguar un painted ---and having left them out overnight to test Yes they had started to rust so for £10.00 they should last forever.
The coil springs are only painted when new so for another £15.00 I had them powder coated.
Coil springs have been on back order for over 12 months & no sign of them being re produced,

As you found out, it doesnt take long for any bare metal, that gets a tad damp to get surface rust!
Like the bush holes, fortunately its only light surface rust.
Surprising how many dealer parts "even jaguar" come unprotected these days!
I thought powder coating cracked on coils when flexed?
I have older classics normally and give susp parts a light spray of paintable smooth flexible underseal than a quick coat of satin black.

Hi the Guy I use here in Grimsby has been doing coil Springs for years mainly for motorbikes,
He assures me they will not crack nor peel off as one part of his process removes all the moisture & then has to PC'd within one hour
Time will tell
