Hi all,
my XK8, 4.0, runs kind of cold after a overhaul of the coolant system (thermostat tower, thermostat, waterpump + new coolant)

All values are read out with OBD:

85°C - idle in park
83°C - cruising at around 80kph
max 91°C - traffic or high load

I read a couple of threads and a running temperature of 95°C to 100°C seem to be more appropriate.
Are these effects of the overhauled system, or am I looking at a faulty thermostat maybe?

Mine runs 88-90c most of the time with an 84 c thermostat....The temp readings you get depend on the sensor near the T stat housing.....maybe worth changing ( green connector) Could the t stat be stuck open? Do all the hoses get hot ?

As far as I can see everything works as it should.
All hoses get hot, thermostat seems to be opening at around 84°C.

I'll check the sensors resistance values to make sure it works as it should.
Is there any harm in running the car a little colder?

 

If its got an 84 t stat and it working ok I would not worry ...I have mine with the half speed fans on with the ignition . Simple mod .one wire to earth. Seems to get quite hot in traffic jambs. personally I wish the water pump ran faster as as soon as I move forward even 10 ft ..raise revs temp drops fast. The hotter it gets the more strain on the old hoses. Is the dash gauge in the middle?
The half speed fans come on at 95 and I think full speed at 105 .
The fans always run with the air con on.
