I live in California also, so that "Impound" thing scares me a bit. I also had the same problem getting the computer to completely reset. Mine failed due to an oxygen sensor and replaced it. Did the Drive Cycle Instructions many times. Everything reset except the catalytic converter. Had to drive another 170 miles before it did. Fortunately there are a lot of back roads here in the Palm Springs area and would take her out driving at night so as to not attract attention. I had the smog check done at Pep Boys, and they told me they had another customer with a Jag who had to put on over 700 miles for his to reset. Just thought you I would let you you're are not alone. Good to vent, but doesn't pay the impound fees.
