Xk8 story problems any advice
Hello my name is jodi so I have posted on this site before I am in beed of help suggestions i have a 1997 xk8 coupe.it was not coming out of park and would go into limp mode check engine light and saying engine fault, low power.i brought it to mechanic who put in new gauges and now that parts working it now comes out of park and I have gauges oh I had no gauges before either.but that parts fixed so after a 800 bill it now is acting up.i have looked on these forums I told my mechanic to physically check my ECM circuit board to see if needs be cleaned he has not done that I bought 2 ignition modules as they thought that was issue waiting on update on that but in the meantime I'm now up to 400 dollars just in diagnosing it..so I'm at my wits end I need my car fixed does anyone happen to know of anyone that works on these cats in CT area.and also any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated my next step if this dont work is send ECM out be looked at but need a good place at good price if anyone can recommend also.i was told if I bought a new ECM off ebay or something it wont work cause it needs to be programmed and they charge few hundred dollars for that thank you all in advance
Before there's additional guess work, which can quickly become quite expensive on a Jaguar, check the battery voltage across the terminals with the ignition in the OFF position using a voltmeter. The battery should have a minimum of 12.6 volts, if not, charge the battery for six to eight hours at 2 to 5 amps and retest. If the voltage is still below 12.6 volts, the battery is suspect and must be replaced prior to conducting any other diagnostic work.
Many of the electrical 'gremlins' chased on these forums are the result of a failing or weak battery.

The 97 ECU often suffers from leaking capacitors. You can send it to a testing and repair company and for a minimal charge they will test it. I have used ASI with good results, and there are others.Disconnect the battery before removing the ECU.
