Thumbs up XK8 / XKR Factory Assembly Footage!

Hey, Forum Members!

I recently “cut the cord”, as they say, from cable/satelliteTV providers, and now watch FREE TV via an ‘internet TV’ box. Among all the free stuff I can watch is a program that you may be familiar with, entitled MY CLASSIC CAR. This series started in the mid-nineties, and I recently began watching each episode from the very first season onward. It is still ‘on the air’ today, but since the demise of SPEED Channel, I’m not sure which station shows it now.

Anyway, I was quite surprised when I saw a segment within an episode in Season 5 in which they visited the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust. This piqued my interest big-time, as I had never heard of this place nor ever heard it mentioned here on this forum (or elsewhere, for that matter). As the segment proceeded, they explained what the Trust is all about and also paid a visit to the Jaguar assembly plant in Coventry! Starting at about 14:20 into the episode, they view the assembly line where our beloved XK8s & XKRs were assembled! It was great to see our series of XKs on the line, but I won’t spoil the fun by telling you what else they show!

So, check it out at http://www.myclassiccar.com/episode/05/12/. If you don’t want to watch the entire episode, fast-forward to about 14:20. This episode originally aired in early 2001, so the footage most likely shows cars on the line from the same model year.

Enjoy!

-John

JDHT (Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust) do a pretty good job of explaining what they are about on their website:

Jaguar Heritage

Many members will already be familiar with the Trust from their technical publication DVD's. There's one available for the XK8/XKR:

Jaguar Heritage. MKI & MKII INC. 240 & 340 1955-1969 (JHM1117)

It's certainly taken a major price hike since I purchased mine from them a few years ago!

Do we get to identify the culprits in the galvanizing shop?

I'll put the illustration here again - somebody who has one of the originals may see it.
