I haven't done this yet, BUT It seems to me that removing the complete rear end only takes about 1.5 hours and give clear access to everything while allowing for checking out the condition of the rear suspension? I did the speaker hole thing on an XJ8 and was scolded (rightfully so I guess) and it was pointed out how easy and safe it would have been to remove the rear end.

I did think about removing the rear suspension but after researching the issue of the fuel tank lines, it was suggested that it was far easier to go via the speaker hole, and it was. Being scolded for not removing the rear suspension is a bit harsh, you can get a good idea of its condition with it in place, in any case i overhauled mine last year so its pristine.

Well, the speaker hole is great if you have a hard top. Just does not work that way for a convertible !! And, BTW, I have a lift which at my tender number of 75 is needed to work on cars !! Never thought of taking the rear end out which I had to do on my 89 XJS to repair the calipers. On the other hand, I opted for Robert Krause's special removal tools for $115.00 as advertised. They work well. Just takes a bit of patience !!

Well, I can cheat because I have a lift and I also purchased Robert Krause's special tool kit for removing xk and xkr fuel lines. It was worth the $115.00 and just sold it for $80.00. Hopefully I will not have to do this again. So for $25.00, well worth not having to try and make one....

Car started up but have a check engine light and a "restricted performance" amber light. I plan on driving it around a bit to see if anything comes up. I will check all fluid levels, etc. No codes read out, but the amber light supposedly indicates a throttle body spring failure !! If that is correct, I should not be able to open the throttle very much. Will see !!

As a BTW, I printed out the fuse locations and the rear seems all correct, but the front passenger side does not match at all ?? Any better update than the 03 version of the workshop manual ?? The number of openings is correct at 18. Two on one side do not have female connectors and one on the other side.

Another unrelated problem seems to be a difficult bonnet (hood) latch on the passenger side. Does not open unless I apply pressure on the left side and the latch releases on the right, very loudly !!
