Default ZF 5 HP-24 TCM Replacement

Hi all. I had some issues with my transmission (2001 XK8 95000 Miles) and took it in for a check and the tech indicated that the TCM was bad. I found a used TCM on line but my question is do I need to have it reprogrammed or will it just plug and play? All the numbers except for the serial number match up. Thanks for any information you can provide.

I have been told it won't work right, but I bought one and had no problem. It's worth a try, and probably the worst that will happen is a message saying the ECM doesn't recognize it, or something to that effect.
If you decide to install, disconnect the neg. batt. cable first. The car will run a little rough at first and the shifts may be hard. If it doesn't behave right it will probably need reprogramming.

I replaced a TCM with one that matched the part number and the extension and it was plug-n-play. Don't even remember any start up issues but that was more than 5 years ago.

Another option is to have ASI repair it.

I had a suspect TCM, but problem was actually the harness between ECM and TCM. Due to flex during acceleration, the data link would become temporarily bad and cause shifting error. My tech determined this after first rebuilding the transmission. That was on a 1997 XK8 with 120,000.

Got a used replacement TCM and installed it without reprogramming it. It works flawlessly and the issues are gone. Thanks to all!
