I thought I had better test my fix , so I removed fluid 50ml at a time to see if warning light would come on when fluid dropped in the tank.

"Low Coolant" warning even with full tank. This was intermittent for a year, then stayed on for a week. Decided to try the 'long-finger' technique that is suggested in this post to jiggle the magnet free. I could feel an opening at the bottom of the sensor shaft and it felt like something was spinning in the shaft, then it disappeared. Warning light went out right away.

At this level, which was pretty much at the bottom of the tank, the warning light came on. I had removed 600 Ml to make the light come on. I started to add new fluid 50 Ml at a time, and after adding 100 Ml the warning light went out. I topped up the rest and no warning light since.

Not a great picture, but you can see the standpipe that houses the floating magnetic sensor.
