Sanded back to bare metal and lightly skim coated with filler. Under that is a light layer of lead filler to fill in some of the more obvious gouges in the metal. Dave uses both: lead to get the surface to where it needs to be, and poly as a skim coat for fine contouring.

Another shot; you can compare to the first photo in this string to see how far back from the original damage you have to work to do a good repair. That small ding ends up having to rework a lot larger surface just to blend in properly.

Repaired right rear fender. Good paint match. The spots you see are from the polishing compound...car has not been washed yet.

2000 grit used to flatten the obvious issues in the clear coat on the hood. From Dave's estimation, this car has been painted a few times over its lifetime...pointed out a fisheye on the roof that had escaped my notice...and mentioned that the reason the front of the bonnet was so stone chipped was that when the bonnet was repainted, the shop that did the work did not bring the surface down to primer, but just sanded the top coat and reshot. This makes the paint too thick, which chips easier.

buffed out and such. Need to get to car wash and get all done...but also needs a coat of wax before the winter. I'm chuffed that it turned out ok!

Polished up the chrome, put a neoprene gasket under the leaper to seal it better to the bonnet, and gave the car a (painfully intense) coat of hard carnuba wax. Lot more work than some of the liquid and other formulations out there...but shines up nicely. I think the VDP grille adds to the distinct 'face' of the car, no?

Kuda USA sidecar mount. They make them with all the common interior colors; there's a metal tab that fits under the wood trim, and a non-destructive tab that catches the bottom passenger edge of the console. Blank face, so, you can mount a standard cell mount to the face and put the phone in a cradle. Out of the way, yet still accessible.

How it's mounted. That is a standard AMPS mount backplate. You just have to be a bit creative and think outside the box; what Kuda puts on their site is only a suggested way of mounting...doing a little investigation and web searching will lead to many creative ways of doing what you need to do without having to drill into your $2000. console, stick tape on your veneer, or have things rattling around the cockpit.

Had mine done while the rust in the rear window was being taken care of. Shop had 3 on the bench at the same time from Jags.

I know the display has some delamination...but, it's useable as it is, no? Thinking I could look for a new gauge....or just leave the patina as it is...;)
