My wife and I are now 1500 miles into a European roadtrip and the diff is as dry as a bone thankfully and the car is doing exactly what it was made to do - great fun.

Don't forget to deform the nut once it's fully torqued to spec.

Replacing the new coupling is just the reverse process but make sure the Ryton ring is correctly seated as you torque up the nut otherwise it will get damaged.

Unlike some diffs, the pre-load is set by a spacer rather than a crush sleeve so there is no need to worry about counting pinion nut rotations etc. There's no need to remove the bearing and spacers but mine fell out when I was manoeuvring the diff so I thought I'd take a photo.

Here's the new coupling alongside the old one. I understand the oil seal might be available separately but there was light scoring on the sleeve on the old coupling where the oil seal lip sits so I'm glad I went for the new coupling option.

You will need to stop the pinion shaft from turning as you undo the nut. I had this tool left over from when I was maintaining a motor scooter.

The pinion nut is deformed onto the thread so this needs to be eased out to undo the nut.

The output shaft then pulls straight out. There's only friction holding it in once the circlip is off. The new o-ring seal is in the packet - stupidly expensive for a bog standard o-ring. The o-ring fits in the empty groove shown in the photo.

Here's the o-ring groove in the housing. There was quite a lot of crud in the groove which is probably why mine was leaking so make sure it's nice and clean.

The circlip pops out of its groove but should not need to be fully removed from the output shaft.

A decent pair of circlip pliers are required to release the circlip.

The support bracket on my 1998 convertible. The second parts diagram in your post looks like they modified this part and did away with the washers.
