And here's the new two-piece looking perfectly happy without any modifications. (The Liquid Leather scent thing hanging from the indicator stalk has long lost its scent of wet cardboard.)

It's possible the wood is slightly further out than before, but it's flush with the glovebox lid and doesn't rattle, so for the moment, I'm going to leave well enough alone.

There's a lot of things running over the bulkhead at the top. Above the VIN stamp it's very thin, but a long thin slot might work.
