Exhaust Valves after and before.  The carbon was so built up on these I used a Mill File to get it off, and took it to a wire wheel for final cleanup.

The great divide between Cyl 2 &3...it's painful to admit how much like a vacuum leak this initial failure felt like.  A compression test should be on the list right after the usual vacuum line tests. Lots of deformation around the coolant passages, note how much smaller the holes in the gasket are compared to the block and head (next pic)
