Tunnel was almost treated the same as the under hood. Firewall and tunnel final coat was "Chassis Saver" then covered with insulating foil. I threw the factory "oil sponge" away.

Bagged and masked. Neat stuff, bag the whole car, protects from over spray, then cut out the hole where you want to work
