Default 'Y' Cable and VACM

Hello.

Today installed VACM in the 04 XJR. Just wanted to report that I created a 'Y' optical cable instead of cutting apart the cars optical loop.

For those out there that may want to add veffrmov's kit or telephone or whatever, you can create an optical 'y' cable to extend your optical ring.

See pics of existing cable with female and two male connectors.

See added VACM on 'Y' cable.

Thanks
Mag

Default What does VACM do?

My 04 XJ had the Moto V2 phone installed when I bought it used. I removed the phone installation. On the entertainment stack in the rear, there is a VACM module that is still in the D2B loop. Does this do anything without the phone? If I install the Veffremov kit (actually, I have already, but need to remove the ACM that I had for my iPhone4 that no longer works with my iPhone6).

If it makes any difference, the part number on the VACM is 2R8F-14B292-AC.

Why would I want to keep it installed - or remove it?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Vacm is for voice command.

"Climate control-75 degrees"

"Radio tune 102 point 5"

Etc.

Yes, you can have voice command without phone. Voice command is for communicating with car.

Don't forget, the veffremov kit is for Audio Streaming, not making calls.

Thanks-
Mag

Yes VACM does work without a phone module, but IMO it is next to useless. The only thing I would like to use it for is to enter an address in the navigation system, but alas it can not do that.

With the phone module, you can say "Phone dial 444-444-4444" and it would make a call and I use that on occasion. Other that that I find changing the temperature is way easier with the button, that trying to remember the correct incantation for the voice unit.

Rob, if you remove the VACM and decide to install a phone module you would need a bypass plug on the VACM connector so the microphone signal can reach the phone module.
