So I sold my XJ8 and bought a 2000MY 3.0 V6 S-type as a spares / repair project.

Basically, she needs a battery drain sorted, a vacuum hose replacing on the upper manifold and the headlamp washers sorted out, and a new fuel filler flap clip.

Which brings me to my question, on looking at the washers, I have one that is complete just missing the cover, but on the other only the main body is there with no nozzles, so can I just buy the nozzle bit on its own like this JAGUAR S TYPE HEADLIGHT BUMPER WASHER JET | eBay, or do I have to replace the unit as a whole ?

The covers need painting if bought new but you might get properly painted ones from a scrappy. Ditto the washer part - I suspect that ebay one is indeed what you want but am not sure.

Worry about any air leaks such as the one you have if there's a faulty vac hose because they rapidly burn out the cat(s).

I know where the leak is on the upper manifold, it is the rubber elbow which i believe is part of the PCV system, part has been ordered, just waiting on postie.

I am not using the car at the moment as I also need to trace a battery drain, so a bit of fuse pulling to do.

At that age it would be worth removing the plastic sill covers and having a good look at the sill itself, especially around the rear jacking point.

Have a look at the thread "Rusty sills" which was posted a few days ago. It will give you an idea of what to look for!

One of the first things I looked at

There is some rot on the outer sill drivers side rear, but everywhere else seems to be really solid, so hoping I got lucky.

I can see plenty of waxoyl in my near future.

Having said that, I think i have found the battery drain. The N/S front door lock is playing up, in that when I try to lock the car it immediately unlocks again unless I mess with the interior lock button and visa versa when trying to unlock from locked, there is also no noise from the solenoid at all when trying to lock or unlock the door.
