paul, bank 1-sensor 2 is the downstream O2 sensor for the set of cylinders nearest the radiator. So, open the hood, follow the exhaust manifold down. You will see an O2 sensor near the motor. This is the upstream sensor. Keep following the exhaust down, go past the catalytic converter and the next piece that you see sticking out the side of the exhaust pipe will be the sensor you are after. I would first check the wiring to make sure that you haven't managed to damage the wiring. After that, replace the sensor. Odds are that will fix your problem.
If you need more help, just hollar.

Yup, Thermo now owes everyone a beer, lol. Not often he has a brain fart.
The term "bank" refers to a grouping of cylinders in the engine. In "V" configured engines, as in V6 and V8, Bank 1 is the reference to the RH bank of cylinders, as the engine sits in the car and viewed from the driver seat (LHD). Bank 2 is the LH side. In the X-Type, the engine is turned 90 degrees to the right, that means Bank 1 is now the rear bank and Bank 2 is at the front.

OK Hi I'm Todd
I have an 04 XJR
Got the same P0037 code yesterday
bank 1-sensor 2 is the downstream O2 sensor
Do the same instructions apply for my vehicle as the X?
this is what I purchased yesterday
Kwiksen Heated O2 Oxygen Sensor Downstream 234-4798 For 1999 2000 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 Jaguar XJ8 XJR LNE1682BC OE Style

New o2 sensor in downstream, but still giving 0057
I replaced one of my upstream, and was stupid and used an universal o2 sensor for the downstream bank 2, and that's when I recieved the 0057 code. I purchased and installed a new sensor and am still getting the code. Getting smoke out the tailpipe when I never did before up till the universal. Also I didnt drive it but 2 mins with the universal sensor so couldn't have been long enough to heat every thing up. Not sure what options there are at this point.

re xtype 00037 code,
hi today my mechanic has tried to fit me a new sensor on the bank 1 sensor 2 but the new part has 4 wires and the old part only has three when he looked upstream to the next sensor that has 4 wires now we are confused. I ordered the parts from a Jaguar specialist in the part is a Bosch and I was assured this was the right part for The Bank 1 sensor 2. I have told the Mechanic to fit the new sensor anyway and to reset the fault code and see if this will correct the problem fingers crossed.
