People who have been succesful with Scuffmaster dye-
Hello guys,
I have tried to dye seats in the past with awful results. Last time I used acetone on one panel to tried to remove the old dye, then I applied some of the dye and it turned out terrible. I was told here that the acetone was a poor idea and probably prevented the dye from taking. Needless to say, the results on the panel I tried (the seat bolster) where awful.
I am trying this again now, this time I have been conditioning the seats for a week and have been scrubing the panels I want to redye with nothing but a wet acrilic sponge and elbow grease, no chemicals and immediately using conditioner again until I am ready to hit the panels again with the acrilic sponge. I don't know how much it is recommended that I break down the old dye:
For example I have broken down the old dye almost completely here:
Or it this enough:
Here I have only lightly broken thru the color.
I want permanent results. Not a bi-yearly dye event
Please share what works best

The best colourant for Jaguar leather is the same type used originally: a water-based polymer. Both Leatherique and Color Plus make these products and I have used both, always with perfect results. I find the Colour Plus Surflex easier to use but the end result is similar. Very simple to apply (very, very sparingly!) and they clean up with water. Once cured (dry in 30 minutes but "curing" takes a much longer time - after that you can use conditioner on the leather again) - once cured the finish will not peel or wear and it has the perfectly natural look of the original leather.

Thanks Gregory.
I am very happy with the Scuffmaster results. I did not follow their process to the letter, but instead I stripped as much of the original coating in the damaged panels (some more than others), and then left Leatherique soak thru the uncoated leather for about a week. I removed the old coating with a nylon dishwashing pad. No chemicals, just water and elbow grease. I find that the area where I almost completely removed the original dye/coating from and left the leather bare, is the area that turned out the best. The other panels where I merely "broke down" the original dye turned out well, but did not suck up the dye as fast and evenly as the completely stripped panel. The Suffmaster color match is 100 percent perfect. :
