Door speaker size...the last thread???
So I'm getting ready to do my door speakers and I'd like to have them in hand before I pull the door "cards" after searching the Forum I've come to the conclusion that they are 5.25", 6", 6.25" and even 6.5" but never a definitive answer. Has anyone out there recently replaced there's and have an accurate measurement, brand, model etc so I can get this right in one shot. Not looking for super sound quality just no "crackle" from these 97 dried up speakers.

Seems consistent with the other "speaker" threads that a 6.5 inch speaker will fit.
Two other questions come to mind though:
1) Has anyone verified the stock speaker impedance? Is it 4, 6, 8 or 16 ohm? I would suspect 4 ohm being an automobile speaker, but...
2) Does anyone know if there are any depth challenges with the door "woofer"? Will most standard depth 6.5 speakers work fine, or are shallow depth models required to clear anything inside the doors like window lifts, etc?
Thanks,
Al

These are what I fitted to my XJR6 direct fit no messing about cant go any bigger than 6 inch without serious modifications
JL Audio TR600-CXi 6" Evolution TR Coaxial Car Speakers
If you search around there are cheaper places to buy them
I chose these on the sensitivity rating the higher the sensitivity rating the less power needed to drive them
they sound okay not much bass but that's to be expected for a 6 inch speaker
I use this head unit Alpine Electronics of Australia
don't need a CD got so many Ipod's and my CD collection over the years is over a thousand CD,s
I figured I bought them because I liked the music just loaded a giant compilation on one of my Ipod's select random takes from Home to Melbourne and back before I hear the same song about 36 hours
Used this amp http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...X4.htmlhttp://because I fitted this sound expander
Alpine Electronics of Australia
In the end its pretty good just lacking in the bass got these to go into it when I get a chance
My newXJ8X350 has a much better speaker system from the factory about time all I had to do to it was fit an I pod adapter which was quite expensive but able to use my Ipods means I can take my music to all my cars don't like to listen to the radio if I want guidance and talk Ill take the wife LOL

I'm bumping because all 4 of my door speakers have rotted. I replaced one with a used speaker from another car just to see how long it would last.... 2 months, turns out.
So what aftermarket speakers will be a direct fit? It seems 6.5 inch speakers are the way to go. I'm a little skeptical of installing coaxial speakers as its already a component system with tweeters mounted separately. But I can only find either coaxial or component systems with the unnecessary extra tweeters...
I'm also a sound guy by trade, so decent sound is a must. I won't be replacing the factory head unit (standard base model) and I understand it's a bottle neck in overall sound quality, so I don't want to go overboard on speakers.
Thoughts?

Can't give you a definitive answer, but if I were looking for a single component speaker I'd start here:
Parts Express: the #1 source for audio, video & speaker building components
I've built a few home projects from various components, including individual drivers of various sizes, impedences, etc. from them.
Looks like they have about 20 different 6" drivers in their "Professional" speaker section alone.
Might be some options there or from similar vendors. I wonder what the impedence is for the stock Jaguar door speakers in the HK system?

Discontinued, but I put four of these in w/stock head unit, non premium sound a few years ago. Direct-fit/no muss, no fuss. They included a little jumper so no wire cutting, either. Suit me, sound fine.

I installed 5.25"....straight fit...........
To all doors of our '96 X330, as advised by our local car audio guy,(who suggested most "Euros" of this era used 5.25"), plenty of depth to install too over the "stock" speakers...very happy with the result, but suspect you can "shoehorn" something larger in there if you really want to. Nothing spectacular about the sound but as stated: "better than the crackly original ones"...

The bass from 6 inch speakers are pathetic so I could only imagine what 5.25 would be like
If you don't mind doing some work a set of 6x9 in the rear deck would work nicely then some bass blocking caps for the door speakers still not perfect I gave up on my XJR6
The sound system in the X350 is light years ahead of the X300 cars and it's a compromise as well

The replacements I used were 4 ohms and they worked just fine. I'm no audiophile. Have no idea what the originals were, but I suspect there may be some performance issues if I'd replaced 8 ohm with 4 ohm, all around. So I'd reckon the original offering was 4. I've got some busted originals out in the shop, I'll see if it is printed on 'em anywhere tomorrow evening...

I'm going to give these a go: Kenwood KFC-C1655S 6.5" Sport Series Flush Mount Car Speakers
I chose them because:
Flush Mount ?
4 ohm
35watt RMS (good match to stock head unit?)
Shallow
lots of mounting holes
Cheap
Any obvious reason they won't work?
EDIT: upon further inspection it looks like these are intended to be top mounted to the surface...

It's the same part number for both front and rear doors.
I still haven't pulled the trigger, but I'm now thinking of trying these:
Dayton Audio RS150-4 6" Reference Woofer 4 Ohm
Wonder what the frequency response of the tweeters are.... If they go down to 2.5khz, should be a good match.

Guys,
as I write, there is for sale on UK ebay (I am not the seller by the way!) a set of Harmon Kardon door speakers for the X300, together with the wiring loom and the amp, all for £90.
There does not appear to be a sub woofer for the rear window shelf, or tweeters, but it would be a good and cheap way forward, preserving originality at the same time. My 1996 XJR has the Harmon Kardon system, which is still in full working order, and while it is no ghetto blaster, it delivers excellent sound and compares well to the system in my 2011 Range Rover.
Cheers
P.s they are listed under "jaguar/Daimler X300 premium door speakers"
