Wiper hang up on a 2004 XJ8
Just Bought a 2004 XJ8 and noticed that on occasion the wipers when they should return in the park position (bottom) seem to get hung up across the middle of the windshield. this happens on all settings. Most noticeable when turn off the manual modes or in auto mode and it tries to park itself.
I engage it for a single swipe or when I turn them off in a manual mode I end up having to re engage the single swipe mode until it ends up out of the way. I am wondering if perhaps there are some gears in the mechanisms or some kind of clutch that may be at fault.
has anyone seen this or is this a common issue?
Thanks in advance

Thanks I'll try the cheaper path to see if I can remedy w/o changing the motor provided I can find the relays , I'll let you know how I make out.

Question I looked at the Relay's for the wiper hang up issue and I saw somewhere else that the wiper relay was Relay #4 & #8 (under the hood) looks like #4 & #8 are the same part #, I was wondering if anyone could confirm that in fact #4 & #8 were the wiper relay on an 04 XJ8 and if so my #4 & #8 part number is LJA6707AA I am curious because I saw #4 & #8 as a suspension parts in another post (I realize this could be be more then 1 system handled by these relays). This same post claimed that Part # LJA6707AA was replace by Ford part #'s V231136-A1-X64 or 5M5T 14B192 DA or 02C234433 in another the first & 3rd I could not find and the second seems to only be in Europe. Can anyone tell me anything to clear all these items up? Thanks for any clarification in advance, Thanks in advance...

At first we were replacing the wiper motors. But the real issue is that I would check before doing that is take some connector electrical cleaner, and clean the wiper motor connector. Then I would clean the ground on the passenger side by the cabin air filter. The cowl or plenum cover will have to come off. The cabin air filter box will have to come out, I believe. The wipers are parking midway, The relays have nothing to do with that. There is only a wiper relay for fast/slow, and for wipers(operation period), the parking of the wipers is built into the motor. Lastly, the wiper motor is pain in the you know what to do. I would start with the connector and ground cleaning first.

In my case the relays solved it
