So i measured the ohms across the fan that is not coming on and it measured 2ohms. This was by disconnecting the fan harness and simply using my leads on the prongs on the fan. Is this what I should be doing? An electrician tested the relay for me and it checked out

 

I thought you checked the fan already and it worked when you swapped the harness?

If the relay checks out the only other components are those temperature/pressure sensor switches ...and the ground connections.

What did you get out of the TSB's? any good leads?

The pressure switches supposedly checked out too when the guy tested them. As for the TSBs Ive noticed that someone else was having similar fears but that all wasnin working order. I do understand that on 94s the AC on doesn't command any aux fans to come on. My car isn't necessarily overheating but itjust doesn't seem like normal behavior for only one fan to work on high speed only. I would like for a fan to come on when I use the AC. Temps climb faster when I use the AC and it simply becomes ineffective.


Is the temp suppose to ever get this high or a bit more? It can reach about 2/3 of the gausge until the upper fan kicks on at hight speed and then temps creep back closer to N but it will continue to stay a bit past N once it gets past N. I will clean the ground point and cables on the passenger wing

 

I'm not questioning your test guy's abilities but seems to me the sensor switches would require some degree of skill to test them effectively ...they switch at certain temps and pressures, right?

How is your rad? Could there be some sort of restriction?

I still think it odd (regardless of fan speed on/off etc) that your temps register so high ..it wouldn't be so odd if these temps showed up after a hot run with the engine off or stuck in traffic for long periods in blazing heat, but if you're seeing these readings during a drive ...not normal, at least compared to my car. As the condenser is in front of the rad, maybe you've got some crud/bug buildup between the two that's blocking the airflow?

OTOH, maybe the gauge sender unit isn't working properly?

Maybe some other owners can tell us how their temps behave?

 

The temps only register this high on the gauge when Im in stop and go traffic or at a complete stand still, it has been warm here in Los Angeles last couple of days. Driving and moving forward does help keep the temps down. The electrician did mention that he was registering about 208 degrees max when the needle was that high. i checked for crud and there's nothing. Its clean. Hoses are new, and thermostat too.

 

Fan issue solved! A small Part of the wiring is damaged by a crimp that was probably made by a careless person remounting the radiator. I now have slow and high speed working on both fans. Thanks!
