wiper problem
I started out with my 1978 XJ6 wipers coming on when I turned on ignition, with a bit of messing with wiper switch I could get them to shut off,but they stopped wherever they wanted to. I got dealer sheet on wiper checking..and the switch, relay check ok in my opinion according to sheets. However in this
process I have broken end off of drive cable going into wiper motor, my question is "how do I get the drive cable out" looks to me like a dash removal (hope not), help please

Jose and Mitchell ; thks for your replys ... Jose, I can not believe it is that simple, GLAD that it is ...worked for me except that I understood you had to remove the drive cable from the motor and I broke the end that connects to the plastic slider in the motor so now I need new cable assembly....and Mitchell yes I guess it is called rake cable, runs from motor to rack tubes , any idea of my original problem...wipers come on with ignition switch...thks for your help

you welcome. It is very simple but I forgot to tell you to remove the two wiper arms before you pull the cable.
disconnecting the cable from the motor gets the whole enchilada out of whack, ask me how I know.
the cable runs through sections of flared tubing. The flared ends engage at the wheelboxes.
if you can remove the dash CAP, (not the dash but the TOP CAP), you can see the two wheelboxes and the flared tubes between them. If any of the flared tubes is out of the wheebox, there are two 5/16th nuts on each wheelbox cover, loosen them and re-insert the flared end of the tubing into it. Retighten the cover.
re-grease and reinsert the cable from the engine compartment pushing it gently. Again, remove the wiper arms first. (I forgot to tell you that).

here's how it looks. Try David at Everyday XJ for a replacement used cable. Image courtesy of SNG Barrat USA and it shows a Right Hand Drive wiper system.

thanks all for your replys; I have got new cable installed and have a Service Division Dealer training sheet consisting of 10 pages which shows how to test wiper system. I am GOOD on all tests until the last one which says "ground 4a and 1b ...join 2a to 5a... power 1a --motor reverses and stops in park position ---this does not happen ,there is nothing when I connect these wires ...nothing... does this mean motor is gone , do I dare take apart in hopes I can find something ?? or will new motor solve my problems ?? next step please

well thanks to all those that helped I got my wipers working properly ...However , when I went to start car to remove from garage the throttle pedal will not press down . I thought I must have jammed something when I was under dash, but everything is ok ...it seem like cable is stuck in casing. I was going to unhook one end and see if I could get some oil in it but I cannot unhook either end. my book says to drive out pin in arm under dash ....can't seem to do that and hookup on engine end is not clevis yoke like book says and I cannot for life of me see how it comes apart ...any suggestions ??
