Default Possible Fuel Leak?

Hello everyone!

It seems that my 2010 XK might have a fuel leak and I can't find the actual leak or cause. NO fuel spillage can be detected via visual or smell yet the fuel level display and range ticks down at a WAY faster than normal pace. I will lose about 6 extra miles on a 12 mile trip. Has anyone heard of any weak links or common issues with this year/model regarding this type of issue?

Appreciate any help as I haven't been able to find any information online so far.

Thanks!

Brian

If you can't smell it or can't see it then you don't have a leak. Are your tail pipes black , does it idle normally. Can you check your water temperature. Do you have any codes. Have you changed brands of fuel.

Use OBD - such as an elm327:
1. check goes CL (closed loop) very soon after starting
2. then check fuel trims

If, for example, it stays OL (open loop) you'll have terrible MPG.

Hopefully I have answers to all of your questions and I REALLY appreciate the help!!

My tail pipes do indeed have some black on them. I will try to attach a picture to this post.
Idle is normal and smooth. Coolant temp per Torque Pro via OBD is 188 degrees. No codes and I tend not to use the same brand or gas station when I fill up but I always use premium.

I’m not sure how to check for closed loop and I’m not sure what the proper fuel trim settings should be. I will post the test results below as well as the fuel trim results.

Fuel Trim Bank 1 Long Term: 7.81%
Fuel Trim Bank 1 Sensor 2: -1.56%
Fuel Trim Bank 1 Short Term: 1.56%
Fuel Trim Bank 2 Long Term: 7.81%
Fuel Trim Bank 2 Sensor 2: 1.56%
Fuel Trim Bank 2 Short Term: 2.34%

Should have a status value for closed/open loop etc. If OL it'll be bad mpg as it dare not do other than run rich.

Ignore MID/TID.

Trims, parked, hot engine, at idle & again at about 2500rpm.

You could out of curiosity also get a passenger to look when driving (or record data, if it will).

It's worth doing brim-to-brim fuel fills & hand calculate mpg as a sanity check.
