Complete engine/trans/ecu swap 4.2 into 4.0
I read through the previous threads on block swap etc. and get a little confused as to the nomenclature AJ,s x100, X308 blah blah blah. I'm pretty crafty and would like to know if I'm barking up the wrong tree. Can I swap a 2004 4.2 na from a XJ8 engine/trans/ecu into a 1999 XJ8 4.0 na?
If there are work arounds I can do them eg drive shaft couplings/lengths.
Any help would be nice,
Joe

AJ-V8 or AJ-V6 is the name of the engine family developed by Jaguar.
To avoid confusion, most forum members refer to the Jaguar model by the name used internally by Jaguar during its development. So the 1997 to 2005 MY XK8 is an X100 while the XJ Series through the 1990s to 2003 are either X300 or X308.
Since the request you put forth is not something many on the forum have attempted, it may be far easier for you to review the Workshop Manuals for both the X300 and X350 as the vehicles are significantly different in design and features. You may also want to have a look at both wiring diagrams to see if what you want to accomplish is even possible.

Heck they make a control pack for the coyote motor. The weight and power of the big inch LS motor and the 5.0 are very similar as is the cost of a crate engine. Junk yard wise you can go for an f150 motor...But bottom line is will a coyote fit...IF it did id go coyote all the way..But then again the 4.2 isn't a bad engine at all. It be MUCH cheaper and easier to swap one of those in then any other type of swap
