Has anyone had any luck upgrading the stereo in an 87 XJ6?

I'd like to keep the head unit somewhat stock looking.

Looks like the stock speakers are 4". Has anyone been able to mount 5.25"? It would be nice if they could be hidden behind the stock grills.

I'm not an audiophile but I know lots of guys successfully upgrade. Radio is standard DIN size. Not sure about bigger speakers but if there's a will, there's a way.

Good luck finding a unit that looks right in a Jag. My (limited) experience is that you have to go pretty high-end to get away from the Tokyo-at-night look.

I upgraded my 88 Rover with an Alpine ida-x200 and like pretty well. Its blue lights don't look bad against the gray interior.

With a little trimming I was also able to get 5.25" Alpine SPS-500 in the doors and rear roof.

I picked up a 12" sub and amp from one of our club guys on a trade for some old tires. The enclosure fits nicely under the rear deck.

It all sounds really good for the $ I've got in it. One thing I really like about that setup is the usb memory stick access. No skipping while on the trail.

If I can find he coin I'd like to maybe go with some 5.25" component subs and tweeters in the doors and find a good place for a sub and a 5 channel amp in the trunk.
