I've been searching for hours and can't find the answer. I just bought a 2008 XJ8 but it's a base car with the basic audio system. Does anyone know if it's prewired for the CD Changer or if the basic audio system will control a changer?

It is kind of pre-wired. The radio would control it, but if this is your fist fiber optic device the radio needs to be configured to activate the optical port. You would need a fiber optic harness. Here is the manual how to install one:

But CD-changers are a bit last millennium tech.

 

I'm a little last millennium myself. Is configuring the head unit something a dealer has to do? I would really just be happy with Sirrius or XM but the Jag upgrade looks like crap and I don't want an aftermarket head unit. It would be nice if you could swap it with a premium unit but everything I've read says it's major operation. Thanks for the info.
