Default Need Advice For Dash Kit - 96 XJ6

Hi Guys,

I am trying to buy a new receiver to replace the factory one. I have gone to BestBuy, CircuitCity, Frys, and they all said that they did not carry dash kit for 96 Jaguar XJ6. Can anyone point out where to buy it or what other models are compatible? I have searched through search engines and it seemed that no one had it either.......

Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Frank

You do not need a kit. The stock stereo will slide out and the New one will slide right down in the sleeve. You just have to wire it in, they do not make a wire harness for our cars. I did mine with a new Kenwood and love the way it sits in the dash.

If I can be any help shoot me out a line!!!

Default He is right but it is not that easy

I have replaced my radio three times now. Each time I got a little better at it. But, it takes time. You have to carefully take your middle glove compartment and middle console apart. The gear shifter has to be moved to get the middle fake wood part out. Then, unless you have a good book that tells you where each of the wires go you have to figure it out one set of speaker wires at a time. Also, if you are like me you will have some wires you don't need. For example, the original had to brown and white wires which are the power wires, I only used one. I don't know why there are two. But, getting back to what the other guy wrote, I don't think you are going to find anyone who has a wiring harness for these cars--but any single din radio will work. Oh I have two jaguar xj6 1996 i take care off.

This is what you'll want:
Jaguar XJ Radio Fascia Adaptor

You can get away without it, but this brings the aftermarket radio forward a bit, and fills in the curves to the side, and makes everything look so much tidier.

I wasn't sure if they had a wiring harness adaptor, but it looks like there is. You can get a full kit here:
Buy Jaguar XJ Car Stereo Fitting Kit online at Nexxia
It would pay to double check that this plug is correct before handing over any money though

As everyone has told you, but with one addition. It seems that there are universal themes to wiring. For example, a torquoise wire seems to usually go to the antenna. On my 1996 Jaguar there were two power wires (I was only expecting one) these were thicker than the rest of the wires and in my car tan and white (I was expecting red). The speakers wires are thinner (they are usually pairs of blue and white and blue and yellow, or green and red and green and white). I had to connect my wires to the radio and then listen closely to see where each speaker was. Take your time, one screw at a time. The wood looking part that surrounds the radio is plastic, it bends a little to help get it out. Remember to start with the arm rest and work your way to the radio. One last tip is helpful to know where that there is usually a fuse in the new radio and there is usually a car fuse (in my car, by the right foot area.)

The OP started this thread in January 2008 and hasn't been on the forum since March 2009.

I suspect the car is also long gone.
